Scope: Series consists of town charters, many of which are the original manuscripts, and surveys by Ira Allen, James Whitelaw and others concerning information on the town lines, rivers and lake shores throughout the state. Included are the original field survey notes of the Surveyors-General, the Vermont land register recorded by Eben Judd, a synopsis of deeds to 1803, and Whitelaw's and Samuel Crafts' books of plans, including many sketch maps, drawings and lotting plans. The Office of Surveyor-General was established in 1779 and abolished in 1838. See State Papers of Vermont, volume one, "Index to the Papers of the Surveryors-General".
