| Scope: Series consists of survey maps of rural post roads by county, school bus routes by county, supplemental maps by county, a Bennington county traffic map, a Grand Isle county highway map, a Rutland county highway map, and a general highway and transportation map of Rutland county. The survey was conducted by the Vermont Department of Highways in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture and United States Bureau of Public Roads. The Bureau of Public Roads required every state to implement a statewide highway planning survey beginning in 1936, using federal aid funds. The surveys were the beginning stages of the development of a national highway system that resulted in the Interstate Highway system. | |
