The Houston Studio served unofficially as state government photographer and many of the photographs in this collection (c. 1921-1963, 15 cubic feet) are government related. Subjects include legislative groups (1931-1963), state government buildings (especially the State House), and state employees at work. There are many photos of governors (c.1928-1944) participating in various events and activities (signing bills, helping with the WWII civilian effort). Other subjects include airports and airplanes, automobiles, trucks and service stations, churches and church groups, fraternal orders, bands and orchestras, businesses and buildings, New Deal projects (CCC, WPA, NYA, VERA), town views, and Mount Mansfield. The photographs are taken primarily in Montpelier, Stowe and Waterbury. There are panoramic photos (c.1929-1937) of legislators, a summer camp, and landscapes.
