Vermont Genealogical Research
- The Nye Index at the State Archives is a name and subject index to 18th and 19th Century (mostly pre-1840) Vermont state records (called the Manuscript Vermont State Papers). All the index data on the records from the 18th Century have been entered into an online Nye database. For more information see the Manuscript Vermont State Papers.
- Naturalization records preserved by the State Archives can be found by searching the Record Series database.
- Vital Records (birth records, death records, marriage records, divorce records) are held by Reference and Research, Division of Public Records, Department of Buildings and General Services.
- Most of the Civil War records held by state government are at Reference and Research, Division of Public Records, Department of Buildings and General Services.
- Federal census records of Vermont (1790-1920) and newspapers (obituaries) are at the Vermont Department of Libraries. The Department also maintains access to genealogical databases (like Ancestors.com).
