Hemlock Woolly Adelgid - Joint Quarantine No. 2

AGENCY: Dept. of Agriculture, Food & Markets
CONCISE SUMMARY: This rule proposes to amend the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Quarantine jointly administered by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets and the Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation. the revisions will now prohibit the importation of hemlock seedlings and nursery stock into Vermont from areas of the United States that are infested with the inset pest known as Hemlock Wooly Adelgid. In addition, certification will be required to import hemlocks form non-infested areas of the United States.
TYPE OF PERSONS AFFECTED: Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, Vermont Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation, Forest Product Industries, Nurseries and Landscapers.
COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS: This rule is not expected to have any significant economic impact. this rule may cause a short term reduction in the availability of hemlock nursery stock available to Vermont's nurseries, garden centers and landscapers.
SCHEDULED HEARINGS: A public hearing will be held on March 31, 2005, from 1-3 PM. The hearing will be held at the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Laboratory Building Conference Room, 103 South Main Street, Waterbury, VT 05671
